SurfAid International is a non-profit humanitarian organization whose aim is to improve the health, wellbeing and self-reliance of people living in isolated regions connected to us through surfing.
The Quiksilver Foundation has been working with SurfAid for the past 7 years. During that time we have built a training center located in the village of Katiet on Sipora Island in the Mentawai. This training center serves as a gathering place for the local villages to come together and learn everything from, sustainable farming techniques, nutrition and hygiene practices, to maternal health and sanitation. We have recently funded a clean water project to be installed near the Katiet training center for further support.
Check back soon as we will be updating about the telecommunications expansion project we just helped SurfAid with. This project will help make sure that all islands in the Mentawai are notified with more time to evacuate in case of another tsunami.
