At Quiksilver, we want to make sure the world's remaining ancient and endangered forests endure, along with the ecosystem value they provide through clean water, carbon storage, and biodiversity. Within the global fabric supply chain we are aware of an increase in the use of wood-based pulp, including rayon, viscose, modal, and lyocell. We are therefore committed to using reasonable efforts to influence our own fabric supply chain in order to protect remaining ancient and endangered forests.
To do so, we have adopted policy language for protecting ancient and endangered forests through fabric choices, which: a) Encourages the protection of ancient and endangered forests, including the temperate rainforests of the Pacific Northwest, the Canadian and Russian Boreal, and the tropical forests of Indonesia and the Amazon; b) Requests that fabrics sourced from forests are from responsibly managed forests certified to the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification or other credible third party certifiers with equivalent standards; and c) Encourages the development and adoption of fiber sources that reduce environmental and social impacts.
With support from environmental not-for-profit Canopy Planet www.canopyplanet.org, we will work to further lasting solutions in ancient and endangered forest preservation, and if we find fiber in our supply chain that is inconsistent with our commitments we will work with our suppliers to eliminate it.
